Sonic and the Black Knight? Oh why?!

20 07 2008

A “leaked” scan for the cover of this September’s issue of Nintendo Power has revealed a new Sonic title, Sonic and the Black Knight. Many of us hope this is a joke, but knowing SEGA, of course, it’s not.

The whole scan of the Sep. ‘08 Nintendo Power (viewable by clicking on the cropped image above if you didn’t read the caption), was originally sent to The Sonic Stadium (TSS), and another scan was sent to news site TSSZ News.

This scan states that this upcoming game will be exclusivley released for the Nintendo Wii, so it’s safe to assume that the graphics aren’t going to be anything special, and so far, the storyline doesn’t seem to have much potential either. Of course, it could be similar to Sonic Unleashed in how one element in the story (the werehog in Unleashed’s case) can be a complete turn-off at first, but with more info on the game it doesn’t look so bad.

Yet, just looking at this image makes Sonic and the Black Knight look totally ridiculous! This is mostly due to the fact that Sonic’s muscular build doesn’t look correct in allowing him to swing or even hold up a broadsword like that. Plus, it seems that Sonic Team is going to make it a usual occurence now for having legend surrounded storylines, i.e. Sonic and the Secret Rings with the Arabian Nights, and Sonic Unleashed with the legend of the werewolf. “The Black Knight” is in fact part of Arthurian Legend. He was a knight given said title who appears in much Western Literature, he is clad in black armor and is grandson of King Arthur and half-brother to the Faerie Knight.

So, so far, Sonic and the Black Knight has very little potential to be a great game so far, and is definitley not the great return of classic Sonic that the fanbase has been hoping for for the last seven or eight years.
